KPV is a very small protein piece, called a peptide, that comes from a bigger body protein involved in calming swelling. It is sold by research chemical companies for lab study only. It is not an approved medicine. People who are curious about healing and soothing inflammation sometimes look it up online.

In lab studies, KPV seems to calm the body's swelling response. Swelling is how the body fights injury, but too much swelling hurts and slows healing. KPV can slip into cells and turn down the alarm signals that cause redness, heat, and pain. Researchers have mainly studied this in animals and in cells, looking at skin wounds and gut irritation.

Much is still unknown. There is little strong testing in people, so doctors cannot say it works or is safe for any health problem. An FDA advisory group has talked about whether it could be allowed in special pharmacy-made medicines, but that is not an approval. It should not be taken without a doctor's care.

Regulatory status

On July 23, 2026, PCAC voted 8–6–1 to recommend adding KPV to the Section 503A Bulks List. The vote is advisory — FDA is not bound by it and must complete formal rulemaking before KPV could be lawfully compounded under 503A. KPV is not currently on the 503A Bulks List, remains an unapproved new drug, and may not be lawfully compounded by traditional 503A pharmacies in the interim.

mg vs mcg: one milligram (mg) equals 1,000 micrograms (mcg) — multiply by 1,000 going from mg to mcg, divide by 1,000 going from mcg to mg.
