BPC-157 is a small chain of amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins in the body. It is found naturally in the human stomach, specifically in the juices that help digest food. Because it comes from the body, it is often called a "body protection compound." It is mostly used by people who are interested in healing injuries, recovering from workouts, or fixing problems in their gut. It is not a medicine you can get at a pharmacy, but it is sold as a chemical for research purposes only.This compound is popular because it may help the body fix damaged tissue, like muscles, tendons, and the lining of the stomach.

It works by helping the body form new blood vessels, which brings more blood and healing nutrients to hurt areas. It might also help control inflammation, which is the body's way of reacting to injury. Many people use it hoping it will speed up the healing of cuts, burns, or sprains. It is also looked at for helping with stomach ulcers and other gut issues because it is naturally found there.While it shows promise in tests on animals and cells, we do not know yet if it works the same way in humans.

There are no large, official studies in people to prove it is safe or effective for treating diseases. Because it is not approved for human use, the quality of the product can be very different depending on where you buy it. There are risks involved, and we do not know all the side effects it might cause. Anyone thinking about using it should be very careful and know that it is still being studied.

Regulatory status

On July 23, 2026, the FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) voted 8–6–1 to recommend adding BPC-157 to the Section 503A Bulks List. The recommendation is advisory only — FDA must still complete formal notice-and-comment rulemaking, typically 12–24 months. BPC-157 is not currently on the 503A Bulks List, remains an unapproved new drug under the FD&C Act, and cannot lawfully be compounded by traditional 503A pharmacies in the interim.

Promotes tendon/ligament healing via fibroblast proliferation and migration, upregulates growth hormone receptor expression on tendon fibroblasts, stimulates angiogenesis and collagen synthesis, and exerts anti-inflammatory/cytoprotective effects. Evidence is predominantly preclinical (in vitro and animal).
