BPC-157 is a man-made copy of a tiny piece of protein found in the juice of your stomach. The letters stand for Body Protection Compound, and 157 is the number of the piece scientists found. It is sold as a powder or liquid that people inject or swallow. It is not an approved medicine in most places. Gym-goers, athletes, and people with sore joints often buy it online hoping it will heal injuries faster.

In lab and animal tests, BPC-157 seems to help the body repair itself. In rats with cut Achilles tendons, the treated rats healed better and moved around sooner than untreated rats. It may also help grow new tiny blood vessels, which brings more blood and healing to damaged tissue. This is why people hope it might help tendons, muscles, ligaments, and the gut. Almost all of this proof comes from rats and mice, not people.

Here is the big caution: there is very little research in humans. One big review of studies found almost all the work was done in animals, and there was almost no safety data in people. Government health groups, like the FDA in the United States and ANMAT in Argentina, warn that products sold online may be impure, mislabeled, or unsafe. Buying these products from websites can be a real gamble with your health. Talk to a doctor before trying anything like this.

Regulatory status

On July 23, 2026, the FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) voted 8–6–1 to recommend adding BPC-157 to the Section 503A Bulks List. The recommendation is advisory only — FDA must still complete formal notice-and-comment rulemaking, typically 12–24 months. BPC-157 is not currently on the 503A Bulks List, remains an unapproved new drug under the FD&C Act, and cannot lawfully be compounded by traditional 503A pharmacies in the interim.

mg vs mcg: one milligram (mg) equals 1,000 micrograms (mcg) — multiply by 1,000 going from mg to mcg, divide by 1,000 going from mcg to mg. Mixing the two up is a thousand-fold dosing error: 1 mg taken instead of 1 mcg is a 1,000× overdose; 1 mcg instead of 1 mg is a 1,000× underdose. Pentadecapeptide isolated from human gastric juice with pleiotropic tissue-repair effects. Promotes tendon/ligament healing via fibroblast proliferation and migration, upregulates growth hormone receptor expression on tendon fibroblasts, stimulates angiogenesis and collagen synthesis, and exerts anti-inflammatory/cytoprotective effects. FDA PCAC 2026: committee backs six peptides for compounding, rejects Emideltide

On July 23–24, 2026, the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee recommended adding six of seven reviewed peptides (BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, MOTS-c, Epitalon, Semax) to the Section 503A Bulks List and rejected Emideltide/DSIP. The vote is advisory only — not a final FDA decision and not legal authorization to compound. FDA must still complete formal notice-and-comment rulemaking (typically 12–24 months) before any change in legal status.
