SS-31 is a small lab-made protein fragment, also called a peptide. It is sold as a white powder in small glass bottles for lab research. It is not a medicine approved by any government. Scientists and some wellness clinics are the people most interested in it.

Researchers describe SS-31 as a helper for tiny power plants inside our cells. These power plants are called mitochondria, and they make the energy our bodies run on. SS-31 is said to slip into these power plants and protect them, helping cells make energy better. Some clinics group it with other 'exercise mimetic' compounds, meaning it may copy some good effects of exercise on cells.

Most of what we know comes from lab and animal studies, not large human trials. So there is still a lot we do not know about whether it works in people or what side effects it might cause. It is not approved to treat or cure anything. Anyone curious about it should talk to a licensed doctor first.
