Follistatin is a special protein that your body makes naturally. It works like a brake pedal for other signals in your body. Scientists put it in a group called glycoproteins. It is mostly used by researchers who study muscles and how bodies grow. Some people who are very interested in fitness and bodybuilding also look at this protein.

The main job of Follistatin is to stop a substance called activin. It also stops something called myostatin. Myostatin tells muscles to stop growing. By blocking myostatin, Follistatin might help muscles grow bigger and stronger. This is why many studies look at it for diseases that make muscles weak.

It helps the body build more tissue by stopping the 'stop' signals. We do not know yet if it is safe for humans to use as a medicine. Most of the tests have been done on animals or in small labs. There is no big proof that it works well in people yet. Because it is so strong, it could have bad side effects. It is mostly sold only for research purposes right now.

Research-stageEarly-stage — evidence so far is mostly cell, animal, or preliminary human studies. Not an approved medicine. Verified confidence80–100 — backed by strong, well-corroborated sources (peer-reviewed research, clinical guidelines). Our highest confidence tier.
