Bremelanotide is a man-made copy of a tiny protein-like molecule. It is also known by the code name PT-141. It was made to work on brain signals that affect sexual desire. Doctors and scientists study it, and some adults seek it out for low sex drive.

It works inside a part of the brain that controls arousal. It turns on special receivers called melanocortin receptors, which send signals that can boost sexual interest. In studies it has been tested for a problem called low sexual desire in women. It has also been looked at for men with arousal problems.

There is still a lot scientists do not know for sure, especially outside of official medical use. People who buy it online may get products that are not tested for safety or purity. It can cause side effects like nausea and can raise blood pressure. Anyone thinking about using it should talk to a doctor first, since only a real medical check can tell if it is safe.

Mechanism of Action

Bremelanotide (PT-141) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide melanocortin receptor agonist (principally MC4R) that acts in the central nervous system to increase sexual desire. Unlike hormonal treatments, it works via the melanocortin pathway. It is FDA-approved (Vyleesi) for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women.
