A new investigative review in JAMA Ophthalmology reports nine patients taking semaglutide or tirzepatide who developed serious eye conditions, including nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), papillitis, and paracentral acute middle maculopathy. The findings build on a 2024 study linking semaglutide to NAION. Researchers stress the need for continued monitoring given widespread GLP-1 drug use.
