DSIP stands for Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide. It is a tiny protein fragment made of nine building blocks called amino acids. It was first found in 1977 in the blood of rabbits, taken from a vein in the brain. Scientists study it in labs. It is not an approved medicine for people or animals.
DSIP got its name because early studies linked it to deep, slow-wave sleep. Research suggests it may help the body start sleep and change how long sleep lasts. It may also affect the body's stress system, which controls hormones like those made when you feel worried or scared. Some lab work hints it might protect brain cells and affect blood pressure too. Scientists think it works by changing signals between nerve cells in the brain.
Much is still unknown about DSIP. Most studies were done in animals or in lab dishes, not in large groups of people. Results in humans have been mixed, so no one can say for sure that it works. It is sold only as a research chemical, meaning it is not checked or approved for safety. Anyone handling it should be careful, since we do not know all its side effects.
On July 24, 2026, PCAC voted 6–7 against recommending Emideltide (DSIP) for the Section 503A Bulks List — the only one of the seven peptides reviewed across the two-day meeting to be rejected. A "no" recommendation further defers any path to 503A compounding; FDA retains final authority but is unlikely to advance a substance the committee rejected. Emideltide remains an unapproved new drug and cannot lawfully be compounded by 503A pharmacies.
