The metabolic peptides are the group behind the current wave of weight-management and glucose-control therapies. Several work through the GLP-1 receptor (and related pathways) that regulate insulin release, appetite, and gastric emptying. This is the one pillar with genuinely well-established, FDA-approved medicines in it.

Because some of these are approved prescription drugs with large trial programs and others are early-stage research compounds, it's worth treating them very differently. The approved ones have known efficacy and known side effects; the experimental ones do not.

How They Compare

Semaglutide (a GLP-1 receptor agonist) and tirzepatide (a dual GIP/GLP-1 agonist) are FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management and carry the strongest human evidence here — they're medicines, not supplements. Retatrutide, a triple-agonist, is still in clinical trials and isn't approved.

MOTS-c, a mitochondrial-derived peptide, sits furthest toward the research end, with mostly preclinical metabolic data. If you're exploring this area, the medical-grade options warrant a prescriber's involvement rather than self-sourcing.
