This review names the pineal preparation Epithalamin specifically: it recounts that in 1973 the term Epithalamin was used for the first time in widely accessible scientific research for a cattle pineal polypeptide extract, that Epitalon was synthesized from Epithalamin's amino acid composition, and that in one comparison Epitalon is a better antioxidant than Epithalamin. It surveys Epitalon's geroprotective evidence (telomerase activation, antioxidant and antimutagenic activity, survival gains in mice) while cautioning that toxicity and stability studies are needed before approval as an API.
