The entire article is devoted to human defensins — small cationic antimicrobial peptides (2-5 kDa) defined by six disulphide-linked cysteines, divided into alpha and beta subtypes. It reviews their structure, gene regulation, and antimicrobial mechanisms, and includes an in silico analysis suggesting HD5 may bind the ACE2 receptor's RBD site to block SARS-CoV-2 entry.
