Coverage of the POEMS/SWOG S0230 phase 3 trial presented at ASCO 2014 found goserelin (Zoladex, AstraZeneca) reduced the risk of chemotherapy-associated premature ovarian failure by 64% in premenopausal women with hormone receptor-negative breast cancer. Ovarian failure at 2 years was 8% with goserelin versus 22% in the control arm. The goserelin arm also showed longer disease-free survival (HR=0.49) and overall survival (HR=0.43), with more pregnancies (21% vs 11%).
