A study in Nature Communications demonstrates that a combination therapy using the peptide-based drugs ActRIIB-Fc and anamorelin can reverse cancer cachexia and improve survival in a mouse model of lung cancer. While anamorelin successfully restored appetite, only the dual treatment effectively increased lean mass and physical activity. Crucially, the therapeutic benefits were found to be specific to female mice, dependent on ovarian function, and correlated with Activin A expression levels in human female patients.
